Research Statement（RS）是研究型硕士和博士申请的重要申请材料之一，这份材料主要概括了研究成果、当前工作以及未来工作的方向和潜力等内容。
RS应具备技术性，但也应让部门所有成员都能理解。因此，请牢记“大局”。最有力的RS需要满足可读性、引人注目且切合实际的研究议程，并且与部门的需求、设施和目标完美契合。

1、RS的正确格式：
RS的目的是向遴选委员会committee介绍你自己，该委员会可能由你所在领域内外的科学家组成，需要让他们对你的研究感到兴趣。
- make it one or two pages, three at most，正文尽量控制在2页，有特殊要求的除外
- use informative section headings and subheadings，正确使用小标题总结你的段落内容
- use bullets，正确使用序号列表
- make the margins a reasonable size，建议不要用太宽的页边距
2、RS务必包括的内容：
- The main theme(s) and why it is important and what specific skills you use to attack the problem.即你要研究的课题，该课题的重要性以及具体的问题
- A few specific examples of problems you have already solved with success to build credibility and inform people outside your field about what you do. 通过展现你过去的研究工作来表明你具备解决新问题的能力
- A discussion of the future direction of your research. This section should be really exciting to people both in and outside your field.描述你未来的工作
3、一份好的RS应具备以下几点：

- Avoid jargon. Make sure that you describe your research in language that many people outside your specific subject area can understand. 通俗易懂
- Write as clearly, concisely, and concretely as you can.通俗易懂+1
- Ask others to proofread it. Be sure there are no spelling errors. 可以借用大量的工具做proofreading
关于详细内容
- Acknowledge the work of others.，正确的引用他人的工作
- Put in background material to give the context/relevance/significance of your research.，一定要有参考和引用
- Describe both current and planned (future) research.
- Major problem(s) you want to focus on in your research. 务必清楚的列出你要解决的问题是什么
- The problem’s relevance and significance to the field. 做好文献调研
- Your specific goals for the next three to five years, including potential impact and outcomes.根据时间线列出你未来的工作目标
- A longer version (five–15 pages) can be brought to your interview. (Check with your advisor to see if this is necessary.)部分学院、导师可能会要求更长的RS版本
