As environmental issues worsen, people have begun exploring various ways to tackle these challenges.
However, I disagree with the idea that using domestic products or materials instead of transporting goods is the most effective approach to protect the environment.
Admittedly, importing resources from abroad harms the environment. This is because transportation often involves the use of countless trucks and flights powered by fossil fuels, leading to significant pollution due to the emissions produced daily. Besides, the transportation of goods, particularly food, generates large amounts of packaging waste, which further harms the environment. By contrast, if we rely on local resources, these problems would be mitigated.
However, more problems could occur if we stop importing goods from other places. First, because food production is influenced by many factors such as climate and soil, local food may not meet people’s needs in terms of yield, variety, taste, and nutrition. This could lead to a decline in people's quality of life, and in some cases, even cause hunger for certain individuals.
Secondly, relying solely on local resources may harm the economy as the trade of food and building materials has not only created many job opportunities but also provided significant economic income for people in various regions.
On the other hand, there is a better method to solve the environment problems which result from transportation. Currently, the technology is already available to produce electric cars that would be both quieter and cleaner to use.
The government could introduce policies to promote the adoption of this technology. For example, offering subsidies or tax incentives to individuals and businesses that purchase electric vehicles, and investing in the expansion of charging infrastructure would help accelerate the transition to greener transportation options.
In conclusion, while using domestic products may seem like a way to protect the environment, it brings several challenges, including a negative impact on food variety and economic stability.
A more effective approach lies in embracing cleaner technologies, such as electric vehicles, which can reduce pollution and promote sustainable transportation.
