PhD Position in Chemical Glycobiology/Glycochemistry – Immune Recognition of Staphylococcus Wall Teichoic Acids (WTAs)
Imperial College London | Department of Metabolism, Digestion & Reproduction
博导: Dr Yan Liu,Dr Antonio Di Maio
截止日期:May 11, 2025 周天
资助的博士项目(全球学生)
About the Project
Are you excited about chemistry, glyco-chemistry, immunology, or microarray tools? Join us at Imperial College London as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD Fellow within the Aureus-horizon project!
Apply here → https://www.imperial.ac.uk/jobs/search-jobs/description/index.php?nPostingId=15784&nPostingTargetId=23817&id=PMMFK026203F3VBQB8NLOV4CQ&LG=UK&languageSelect=UK&mask=ext?
Project focus:
We’re looking for a highly motivated early-career scientist with a background in chemistry, biochemistry, or glyco-chemistry to help us develop Staphylococcus Wall Teichoic Acid microarrays and study how these bacterial molecules are recognized by the immune system.
Through high-throughput screening approaches, we’ll identify key interactions with immune receptors – paving the way for in-depth studies using techniques like STD NMR, SPR/BLI, and cellular assays. It’s a thrilling interface of chemistry, microbiology, and immunology!
You will:
- Develop the largest-ever microarray of synthetic WTA fragments and native WTAs.
- Investigate their interactions with immune pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), such as C-type lectins, complement proteins, and scavenger receptors.
- Use cutting-edge techniques including STD-NMR, SPR, BLI, and cell-based models to map immune recognition patterns.
- Collaborate with top European labs in the AUREUS network and travel for training and research stays.
This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with a passion for chemistry, chemical glycobiology, immunology, or glyco-chemistry, who wish to work at the interface of synthetic chemistry and biomedical research.
Location: London, UK
Start date: September 2025
Important eligibility rule:
- “The candidateMUSTnot have resided in the UK for more than 12 months over the past 3 years by the start of the project.”
- Hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Glyco-Chemistry or a closely related discipline by the start date of the project
