Fully funded PhD position to work on centrosome dynamics
LMU Faculty of Biology
Field:Cancer Research, Molecular Biology, Genetics,
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 30 May, 2024
About the Project
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a strong background in molecular and cell biology, to join our team. We offer a fully funded PhD position, to work on centrosome dynamics and homeostasis of centrosome-associated proteins.
The Mikeladze-Dvali group aims to delineate mechanisms regulating centrosome dynamics within the framework of embryogenesis and development. Centrosomes are the main microtubule organizing centers of animal cells and represent signaling hubs, harboring mitotic kinases and cell cycle regulators. Centrosomes undergo dynamic changes in their size, number and material properties during the cell cycle. Precise regulation of centrosome dynamics is key for maintaining genome stability and sustaining cell proliferation. Deregulation of centrosomes is linked to diseases ranging from cancer to microcephaly and ciliopathies. The project will use the nematode C. elegans as a model system to study the regulation of centrosomal proteins during embryogenesis and will employ a broad spectrum of methods in molecular biology, genetics, quantitative live-cell imaging and biochemistry.

Doctoral student in robotics for fire risk assessment in rural environments
KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Industrial Engineering and Management
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 30. June, 2024
About the Project
Project description
Third-cycle subject:Machine Design
The division of Mechatronics, KTH, announces a PhD position in robotics for fire risk estimation in rural environments. The department consists of around forty employees organized in several research groups working on topics connected to robotics, such as design, reliability and autonomy. We frequently work with research-related companies, and several examples of companies that have spun off from our research exists today.
One of our research groups works closely with the forest industry with a focus on robotics, sensor systems and artificial intelligence. In the spring of 2024, we will start a project funded by MSB with a focus on how autonomous and remote-controlled forest machines can improve the coarse-grained estimation of the risk of ignition of forest and grass fires that exist today. Those interested in applying should have an interdisciplinary background in robotics or mechatronics, and a keen interest in immersing themselves in a critical societal area.
Supervision:Associate Professor Fredrik Asplund is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission.
