今年 John Locke 的论文竞赛的题目和往常一样，覆盖多个学科，比如哲学、政治、经济学、历史、心理学和法律。那么，今年主办方又出了什么“难题”给大家？以下是今年该竞赛的题目摘选。

哲学

Q1: How likely is the multiverse? Would it change anything if (somehow) we came to know the theory was true?

Q2: If our actions are a consequence of our capacities and preferences, and if those things are, in turn, a result of our genetic inheritance and the external world in which we happen to find ourselves, are we ultimately responsible for our choices?

John Locke 论文竞赛是什么？

如果只能给大学准备前往经商/人文社科方向的学生推荐一门竞赛“镀金”，John Locke 会是我的首选。有的同学可能会问，这门竞赛究竟有何魅力？

John Locke 论文竞赛是由英国牛津独立教育组织 John Locke Institute 与英国牛津大学和美国普林斯顿大学等院校教授合作组织的学术项目。

通过超过学校课程外的不同学科领域的一系列具有挑战性与趣味性的话题，锻炼与培养学生成为一名优秀写作者所需要具备的以下能力：独立思考、知识渊博、条理清晰、批判性思维能力、以及有说服力的文风。

评委全部来自于英国牛津大学的资深教师，因此能够在竞赛中获得来自牛津大学教师的青睐，将大幅提升未来英美大学本科申请竞争力。

参赛须知

对于想要参赛的同学们来说，这里还有些关键信息是你不可遗漏的：

• 参赛截止日期为（格林威治时间：2022 年 6 月 30 日，星期四，23:59 分之前）

• 在参赛截止日期（2022 年 6 月 30 日）年满 18 周岁或以下的任何国家学生都可以参加

• 每篇文章只能讨论所选择的学科类别中的一个问题，但可以在不同领域中提交多篇文章，每篇不得超过 2000 字（不包括图表、数据表、脚注、参考书目或作者声明）

• 提交论文要通过 John Locke 官网的链接，需要将文档改成 PDF 格式提交，标题要遵循姓氏、名字、学科、问题编号的顺序（例如 POPHAM, Alexander, Psychology, Q2）

• 入围选手名单公布时间：2022 年 7 月 14 日

如何现在就开始备赛？

大家看完上述的问题，是否会有一种“看着都会，提笔脑子就空白”的感觉。我们要知道这是一门专业性很强的学术写作竞赛，要想出彩，是要下不少功夫去思考的。各位选手现在需要做的，就是先把题目都过一遍，然后从众多题目中选出自己最感兴趣的 3~5 道，把这些题装进自己的脑子里，然后在接下来的一个月里，大量阅读文史哲的书籍，以及主动搜索与这些题目相关的知识，让自己慢慢成为这些题目的专家。一个月之期到了后，再决定要参加哪个领域，写哪道题目。也就是说，接下来的一个月，是建立自己对题目的理解，以及积累素材的过程，每天进步一点点就可以了，不必要求自己一次就取得很大的进展。

1. 平行宇宙 (multiverse) 听着像是量子力学时代才有的理论，但它其实历史悠久，在哲学领域里是很古老的一个命题，最早可以追溯到古希腊 Atomists 和 Stoics 这两个学派，一个代表人物是 Chrysippus of Soli（如下图）。大家可以沿着这些线索去搜索。

2. 平行宇宙有很多种不同的定义方式，大家在文章里务必先定义清楚，自己讨论的是怎样一个设定的平行宇宙。能把话讲清楚，把定义给清楚，哲学世界里的问题起码会少掉 2/3 。

3. 如果平行宇宙是真的，那我们这个世界的确会受到很大的影响——这将是一个巨大的世界观上的冲击（想想牛顿和爱因斯坦时代的人，受到了怎样强的世界观上的冲击）。说具体点就是，我们的道德观会受到挑战。Morality in a Multiverse 是一个很值得讨论的话题，事实上这也是一个在哲学领域被讨论很多的话题。
