Speaking Part 2

Part 2“An important rule in your school/at work”这个题目。

So, I’d like to talk about a rule in my high school. Basically, during a 40-minute break in the morning, all seniors would be gathered at the sports field for routine exercise, namely grouping in four rows and running on the track for four laps. In fact, this has been an honoured tradition and a mandatory rule in many high schools.

group in four rows

I was repulsed by the rule at first because I wasn’t sporty, and in particular, I hated running. So, I would try every possible means to skip it. For example, I sometimes pretended to be under the weather or made up lame excuses like “My English teacher asked me to help him sort reading materials.”【对这个规则的最初印象/感受】

be repulsed by 对……

under the weather 身体不舒服

make up lame excuses

Time flew by. At the end of the first semester, we took a fitness test in which female students were tested onan 800-meter run.Well, I barely finished it. The moment I crossed the finish line, my legs trembled, my face turned pale, and I was out of breath. Then, my deskmate joked, “See? That’s what you‘ve got after skipping routine running so many times.” Suddenly, I realised the long-term benefit of the required daily workout. It helps us adjustto middle-distance running; beyond that, it’s a straightforward way for us to chill out a bit. Then, in the second semester, I tried to follow the rule. Gradually, I could run 800 meters without much difficulty. An added bonus for me? I didn’t catch a cold as frequently as before.【什么样的机缘让自己对这个规则的感受发生了变化。】

As I reflect on the past, I think this rule is of great significance, and high schools should continue it.【最后简单评价这个规则“好”“有意义”“重要”即可】
