Moreover, dependence on high-tech products is likely to inhibit independent thought. As a result of the subtle effect of computers and mobile phones, many young people find it difficult to generate in-depth ideas, which is likely impeding the development of their reading and writing skills.
On the other hand, the use of computers and mobile phones can also bring some positive outcomes. The growth of Internet-connected electronic gadgets expands and diversifies young people's reading selections. Previously, people relied on printed media for personal enlightenment, but now, with e-reading, young people have access to a wide range of exceptional literary works. Additionally, writing for the Internet is an effective practice to sharpen writing skills. Traditionally, only prominent individuals could publish articles. Now, young people may share their thoughts and showcase their writing skills via blogs. Their blogs will receive significantly more attention if their opinions and stories can elicit emotion in readers.
In conclusion, the influence of computers and mobile devices depends on how they are used. Young people's excessive use of the virtual world may have a negative effect on their academic competence, but reasonable use can aid in the development of necessary skills.
